Backpacks on the Wall

Backpacks on the Wall

I recently finished up the backpack rack project I spoke about in Finishing Trials. Its a simple spalted maple board with a slight angle cut on the side and bottom edges.

Happy, hanging backpacks.

After spending more time testing finished than I had milling and prepping the board, I finally decided on the Deft Lacquer. Four quick coats later the finish was done.

The mounting stage proved most tedious.

Mounting the hardware was easy on the board. Installing the plastic receiver pieces in the wall was a bit more tedious, though no harder. 10 screws later, I had a hanging back pack rack. Though too late for this school year, it should see plenty of use next year and it was nice to get a lingering project out of the shop.

All done. And with a beautiful finish to boot.

Now . . . back to the tree house.
